Ian Woosman, Nick Faldo named next European captains

More from DUBAI: Ian Woosnam of Wales and England's Nick Faldo were picked Wednesday as Europe's next Ryder Cup captains.

Woosnam will be the team's captain next year, while Faldo will serve in that role in 2008. Woosnam will lead Europe in the Sept. 22-24, 2006, matches at the K Club in Dublin, Ireland. Tom Lehman will captain the American team.

Faldo would captain in 2008 at the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky. Paul Azinger is a top candidate to lead the Americans that year.

Strikes me as odd why woosie (yea he's great) would get first choice over Faldo. Why do you think they chose him. Why do we in America sometimes pick middle aged guys? I'd choose watson or Nicklaus again or even Palmer over Azinger and Lehman who seem a bit bland. I liked sutton as a choice, because he's a tough gritty fighter and cracked the whip the US needs someone like that sometimes. Why not crenshaw again? He got it done...how bout Irwin? this whole let 'em do it once then pick someone else so every Tom Dick and Harry (ok...Tom, Paul and Curtis) gives the team a bland face and seemingly blase, soft leadership.

Here's a question Rob, when its time for singles, can you parse the various strategies involved in setting up the order? I know "front loaded" worked in 99 when we were behind, what was the euros strategy in their order?

How bout in an AMATEUR match? Alternate goofd and bad making sure to have great start and end?
